Oh no! You've soaked your grains for waffles or pancakes but find you are out of syrup!

In 3 qt saucepan stir together
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar (easiest if you weigh 7 oz out)
1 c water
Sprinkle of salt

Bring to a boil and stir to make sure it isn't sticking to the bottom. When it is at a full boil turn it down to 1.6, put lid on, and simmer for 2 minutes.

Stir in about 1 t vanilla

Let it cool to thicken a bit. Serve warm.
