Walnut Tea Sandwiches

An interesting combination of cream cheese, walnuts, red peppers and onion and nutmeg.

1 T fresh lemon juice
1 t grated fresh nutmeg
salt and white pepper to taste

about 24 slices bread
about 1/2 c unsalted butter, room temp
8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 c ground toasted walnuts
2 T finely minced green pepper
2 T finely minced red pepper
1 T finely minced onion

Combine cream cheese, walnuts and peppers.  Mix in onion, lemon juice, nutmeg, salt and pepper.  Spread bread lightly with butter (This is traditional tea sandwich procedure and it prevents the sandwiches from becoming limp or soggy.  Very important--don't skip this!) all the way to the edges.  Spread on the mixture as thick or thin as you desire.  Cut sandwiches, traditionally, in triangles.  Without the crusts, if you can bear that!
